The Eiffel Tower light show has been reinstalled and financed for 10 years.
After much controversy over the cost of the illuminations – over 5m euros, the bill has finally been met by the Eiffel Tower administration, with no assistance from the city’s public coffers.
Paris is lit up every night by the tower’s flashing golden lights, for the first 10 minutes of each hour between dusk and 2am.
The tower is also in the public eye over a judicial fraud inquiry. The alleged fake ticketing, amounting to an estimated 1m euros, is believed to have taken place two years ago when an automated ticketing system was in operation.
The tower has six million visitors a year with an annual profit of around 27.5m euros. Details: www.tour-eiffel.fr
