Avengers Campus to open in 2020 at Disneyland
POSTED 27 Aug 2019 . BY Andy Knaggs
The Avengers Headquarters is a key address on the new campus
Disney fan event D23 in Anaheim became the setting for a raft of announcements by the theme park company, headlined by news that its new Avengers Campus will open at the California Adventure park in 2020.

Giving guests the opportunity to "suit up" alongside superheroes such as Spider-Man, Ant-Man and The Wasp, the campus features several attractions, including the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (or WEB), which is Disney's first ride-through experience featuring Spider-Man. Here, guests can try out the Web Slinger vehicle, gaining a taste of the character's superpowers as they help him collect Spider-Bots that have run amok.

The Campus also features the Ant-Man and The Wasp-related Pym Test Kitchen eatery, as well as the Avengers Headquarters, set to open in phase two, where guests will be able to board a Quinjet and fly alongside the Avengers in an adventure to Wakanda and beyond.

Encounters with super heroes such as Black Widow, Doctor Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy also await visitors in the Campus.

"In some ways, these new campuses are like the Avengers themselves: a group of diverse individuals who have teamed up for the same purpose," said Scot Drake, creative executive for the Marvel Global Portfolio at Walt Disney Imagineering. "This collection of unique addresses ‒ each dedicated to a different discipline ‒ have been brought together to champion the next generation of heroes."

Further announcements were made by Disney concerning a new parade, called Magic Happens, due to debut in Q2 2020, and the 2022 opening of Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, the first major Mickey Mouse-themed ride-through attraction.

Magic Happens will travel down Main Street at Disneyland park, with Mickey Mouse leading a host of Disney characters and floats from movies such as Moana, Coco and Sleeping Beauty.

The Runaway Railway uses state-of-the-art technologies and visual effects to transform a cartoon world into an immersive multi-dimensional experience, as guests ride a train with Goofy as the engineer. This all takes place at the El CapiToon Theater in Mickey's Toontown, where Mickey and Minnie are premiering their newest short, Perfect Picnic.
