Opening date set for 18 March
The Super Nintendo World theme park at the Universal Studios Japan resort in the city of Osaka will finally open its doors this month (March 2021).

Initially scheduled to open before the now-delayed Tokyo Olympics in July 2020, the new attraction is set to launch on 18 March.

Attractions and locations within the park – the world's first Nintendo-themed expansive entertainment area – will include Mushroom Kingdom, Peach's Castle, Bowser's Fortress and Mario Kart.

Super Nintendo World will introduce wearable tech in the form of Power Up Bands – a smart-phone powered technology that allows guests to interact with the world around them.

Describing the new area, Thierry Coup, senior vice president of Universal Creative, said: "Super Nintendo World is a life-sized living videogame.

"We created a whole new level of play by creating the Power Up Band, which will connect guests to dozens of iconic Nintendo items throughout the world in a truly seamless and innovative way.

"The app will keep track of their adventures and any items earned along the way such as coins. There are many many items in the land to play and interact with.

"Super Nintendo World will be filled with interactivity and play.

"It's truly one of the most innovative experiences we've ever created at Universal."
