The Scottish Tourism Forum (STF) has launched five new groups aimed at co-ordinating the views, concerns, ideas and frustrations of the Scottish tourism industry.
The new Policy Advisory Groups (PAGs) will be made up of volunteers from the industry who will come together to help determine and communicate industry responses to proposed legislation.
The five groups are: Skills, Quality and Business Development; Public Sector; Marketing and Promotion; Transport and Infrastructure and The Environment.
The Public Sector PAG will monitor the relationship between the Scottish Executive and public agencies and work to establish tourism as the country’s most important sustainable industry, while the Skills, Quality and Business Development group will help monitor quality assessment processes and improve training support from the public sector.
Alan Rankin, chief executive of STF, said: “The STF can now tap into a wide range of industry leaders and opinion-formers and as a result we will have robust responses to issues as they arise.”
The forum hopes that these groups will positively influence future planning and strategic thinking to ensure the opportunities for Scottish tourism are maximised.
Tourism in Scotland comprises more than 20,000 businesses and generates around £4.5bn for the Scottish economy each year. Details: www.stforum.co.uk
