Thanks to 32 plucky pensioners, Blackpool Pleasure Beach now officially holds the Guinness World Record for the Oldest Rollercoaster Ride in History.
The previous world record was held in America on the Hurricane rollercoaster ride at Dania Beach, Florida, where 30 people, with an average age of 69.5 years and a combined age of 2,085, set the record in 2001.
But, thanks to the 32 riders aged between 71 and 92 years old, Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach officially topped this world record on 24 September last year, with an average age of 75.25 years and a total age of 2,408 years.
Two of the grey knuckle riders, Sam Faber, 92, and Jean Seeley, 84, who were the oldest man and woman to ride the Blackpool rollercoaster, returned to the Pleasure Beach this week to receive the offcial certificate.
Sam said: “As a visitor and local lad, I have been coming to the Pleasure Beach since I was three years old. I can’t wait to come back and ride again!”
