“It was a hard decision to make, but after four years at the helm, I feel I have achieved much of what I set out to do,” says Tony Braxton-Smith, who resigned last week as CEO of Australia’s Dreamworld theme park.
Braxton-Smith joined Dreamworld in August 2000 and is largely credited for reorganising and revitalising the Dreamworld business.
Greg Shaw who is the CEO of Dreamworld’s parent company, Macquarie Leisure Trust, said he respected Braxton-Smith’s personal decision to leave and thanked him for his contribution. “The financial results, plus the improvement in the overall standard of many aspects of our Dreamworld business are a credit to Tony’s management, commitment and leadership over this period.”
Braxton-Smith will cease employment with the Gold Coast-based theme park on 30 April. Dreamworld’s financial controller will assume the duties of acting CEO while the board looks for a permanent replacement.
