The operators of the Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Sasebo, Japan, have filed for bankruptcy with liabilities of Y229bn.
The Dutch-themed attraction - modelled on a 17th century Netherlands town and including museums, hotels, holiday homes, shops and condominiums - originally enjoyed strong visitor figures when it opened in 1992 but since the late 1990s has seen falling attendance due to the recession in Japan.
Huis Ten Bosch Co will continue to operate the park whilst looking for a company to take over its operation. Details: www.huistenbosch.co.jp
