GLL launches ‘any time, anywhere’ fitness offering

Leisure operator GLL has partnered with digital fitness expert Wexer to launch an ‘any time, anywhere’ virtual group exercise offering for its members across the UK.

Responding to the current COVID-19 lockdown, GLL – a social enterprise which operates sites under the consumer brand Better – is offering its members online, at-home access to hundreds of Better Exercise from Home and Better Virtual Fitness Class workouts.

The workouts – which span core, agility, fat burn, mindfulness and yoga – range from 15 to 60 minutes in length and can be played on any internet-enabled device. Each session is led by a top instructor, ensuring exercisers are guided through an effective, safe, motivating workout.

The new options are powered by a white-labelled Wexer Web Player, as part of Better’s new strategic partnership with Wexer, meaning the content is presented to members as an extension of their Better experience.

Planned before the current public health emergency to enable out-of-club workouts, launching during the lockdown has seen an instant uptake by members, with GLL reporting 3,467 downloads over the first long weekend of lockdown alone.

“For some time, leisure providers have been aware of the need to make it easier for their customers to be active at home when they can’t get to the gym," said Marco Coppola, national head of health and fitness for Better.

"Now, circumstances demand it.

“The current crisis will pass and we want to do our bit to ensure Britons come out the other side in the best physical and mental condition possible. Better Virtual Fitness Class and Better Exercise from Home are a great way we can support members to stay active wherever they are.”

Paul Bowman, Wexer CEO, added: “We're supporting GLL in the continued evolution of its digital member journey, working with the GLL team to create a 24/7 fitness offering that reinforces positive perceptions of the brand and drives customer satisfaction.”

GLL is one of the UK's largest leisure facility operators, managing more than 270 leisure centres in partnership with 50+ local councils and sporting bodies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
