Work restarts on Nickelodeon's giant indoor theme park in China
POSTED 19 Mar 2020 . BY Lauren Heath-Jones

Nickelodeon's wide recognition in China will be instrumental to the success of the Mall of China
– Linda Dong, president of China Creation
Work has restarted on the Nickelodeon theme park, with developers given the green light to start work again on the US$750m (£647m, €688m) Mall of China development.

Work was suspended as a result of the coronavirus, however, plans for the construction of the third and fourth phases to resume were approved following an inspection ensuring COVID-19 prevention requirements were met.

Located in the Yubei District of Chongqing City, the Mall of China is being developed by Jiayuan Group, China Creation Group and Triple Five Group. Once completed it will be home to the world's largest Nickelodeon Indoor Theme Park, after developers announced a partnership with Nickelodeon owner, Viacom International Media Networks Asia Pacific, in 2018.

The 92,000sq ft (8,500sq m) park will feature 14 Nickelodeon IPs including Dora the Explorer, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Paw Patrol, and will feature 29 attractions, including Asia's first tilting drop tower attraction and an indoor coaster. Themed around the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the ride will break four world records for indoor coasters, including highest drop, most inversions, longest track and fastest maximum speed.

The park was originally slated for a December 2020 opening, however, will most likely be delayed due to the disruption in construction.

"Nickelodeon's wide recognition in China will be instrumental to the success of the Mall of China in attracting families of all ages from across the country to dine, shop and play at our project," said Linda Dong, president of China Creation.

"Our partnership with Nickelodeon is also a key component to our ability to deliver a world-class theme park product to compete in this fast-growing industry."
