Rowing the wrong way? British Rowing takes workshop around the country
POSTED 13 Oct 2017 . BY Rob Gibson

It's the perfect exercise as it provides a low-impact, total-body, efficient workout that's brilliant for core strength and highly efficient in terms of burning fat
– Helen Rowbotham, director of innovation, British Rowing
British Rowing is taking its masterclasses around the country following increasing demand from fitness professionals who want to learn how to row properly.

The accredited Go Row Indoor Workshop aims to improve the understanding of indoor rowing training and technique.

British Rowing wants to help trainers all over the country to deliver indoor rowing-based classes to classes and clients. The roadshow starts on 19 October at Clitheroe Rugby Club, Lancashire.

Eric Kent, master trainer for British Rowing, said: “Indoor rowing is becoming more and more popular and we want to ensure the standard of instruction is as high as possible.”

The five-hour workshops are focused on improving confidence and understanding of indoor rowing through theory, group discussion and practical learning.

Lasting five hours, the workshop covers British Rowing technique; the benefits of indoor rowing; how to set up a rowing machine; indoor rowing fitness tests, apps and other technologies; how to set up and create individual focused programmes for clients; the use of adaptive equipment; and how to deliver the new indoor rowing group exercise classes to all abilities.

Helen Rowbotham, director of innovation at British Rowing, said: “Indoor rowing is suitable for all abilities, body types and fitness levels. We believe it’s the perfect exercise as it provides a low-impact, total-body, efficient workout that’s brilliant for core strength and highly efficient in terms of fat burning.”

Each stroke uses 85 per cent of your muscles, covering nine major muscle groups – helping you to burn 300 calories in just 30 minutes of exercise.

Accredited by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA), the workshop awards attendees five REPS or five CPD points. Contact British Rowing to book your place.

The September/October edition of Sports Management magazine featured advice on rowing methods from the top clubs worldwide.
