A series of tornadoes caused havoc Oklahoma on 6 May, causing a number of exotic animals, including tigers, to escape from a wildlife park.
The storm, which damaged a number of structures in the state, caused an estimated US$50,000 (€44,124, £32,837) worth of damage at Tiger Safari. Tigers and other animals from the zoo escaped the safari park in Tuttle before being safely recaptured with the help of the Grady County Sheriff’s Office. Local residents were put on brief alert, being told to stay indoors while the animals were recaptured.
In addition to the zoo damage, the tornadoes flipped cars, downed power lines and snapped trees, while several roads were closed because of debris according to the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management.
Tiger Safari is appealing to the public to help rebuild damaged structures following the natural disaster. The park has set up a GoFundMe appeal,
