Andy Burnham to headline ukactive National Summit 2014

Shadow health secretary and respected activity advocate Andy Burnham will return as a headline speaker for ukactive’s National Summit 2014 next month, one of several high-profile thought leaders due to feature.

Having delivered an engaging session at last year’s summit, Burnham is back for the London event on November 13, entitled: Steps to solving inactivity. The summit will bring together key stakeholders from government, public health and the physical activity sector to examine the future of physical activity and the public health agenda. It will be focused around defining the tangible next steps in the battle against inactivity.

Burnham will offer delegates an insight into Labour’s health plans and manifesto, with an emphasis on how his party intends to shape policies to incorporate physical activity ahead of the 2015 general election and beyond.

Professor Kevin Fenton, director of health & wellbeing for Public Health England (PHE) – and Health Club Management cover star – will also headline at the summit. Fenton will provide an overview of PHE’s Physical Activity Framework and how this will influence the delivery of national health and wellbeing programmes administered through and by the NHS and local authorities.

Bobby Duffy, MD of public affairs at Ipsos Mori rounds off the keynote line-up and will explore the consumer context for public perceptions and behaviour towards physical activity in the UK.

“This summit is the pinnacle of twelve months’ work moving the conversation on physical activity to the top of the government’s health agenda,” said ukactive CEO David Stalker, who recently said that now is the time for the physical activity sector to step forward and take action if it is to become a ‘central pillar of the nation’s public health strategy.’

“In a year of unprecedented cross-sector engagement, the presence of this incredible line-up of speakers is an indication that leaders are acknowledging the impact physical inactivity has on lives as well as the nation's purse strings. The summit is a unique opportunity for delegates to capitalise on the current momentum as we move into the next phase of delivering on our collective mission to improve the nation's health through physical activity."

The summit will be held at the Congress Centre in central London. For more information, click here.
