Freedom Leisure and Brighton & Hove City Council complete £2.7m Withdean Sports Complex redevelopment
POSTED 17 Dec 2013 . BY Chris Dodd
The site's gym offers the use of 125 exercise stations
Freedom Leisure and Brighton & Hove City Council have completed the £2.7m redevelopment of the Withdean Sports Complex, with the centre open to the public as of last Friday.

Operated by Freedom Leisure in partnership with the City Council, the complex now offers a larger gym-space, which houses an increased 125 exercise stations.

The gym also features a Synrgy360 functional training rig, which combines several total-body, dynamic exercises to provide unlimited ways for users to train.

The space will provide room for small group ‘360’ classes, incorporating the use of kettlebells, battling ropes, suspension training and plyometric rebounding.

To accompany this kit, the refurbishment has seen the installation of Hammer Strength weight training equipment, while there is now a dedicated personal training studio for one-to-one and small group training sessions.

The makeover has also brought about the addition of two new exercise studios, including an indoor cycling studio using the forward motion video-enabled Myride+ programme. The use of Myride+ will provide users with access to virtually instructed, automated workouts outside of traditional class hours.

Away from the gym, the complex has undergone work to its six squash courts, with sprung floors being added to aid an improved playing experience.

For those looking to relax after their workout, male and female integrated sauna cabins have been installed, as well as three therapy rooms and a bar and café.

Users of the facility can also make use of the site’s expanded, refurbished changing areas, which have been developed to private-facility standards.

Work has also been conducted on the building’s exterior, which has seen a remodeling and the implementation of a glazed facade at the front of the site in order to offer gym and café users views across the surrounding area.
