Image: The entrance to the new activity centreA new family activity centre has opened at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in Washington DC, US.
Visitors to the imagiNATIONS Activity Center will be able to explore the history, diversity and culture of Western Hemisphere tribes through learning tools and hands-on activities.
The 5,400sq ft (502sq m) space also boasts a wall of windows overlooking the Capitol and the National Mall, as well as interactive games and storytelling programmes.
NMAI worked with communities including Acoma's Pueblo and Peru's Cocama to create experiences showing how tribes adapted to conditions in areas such as South America.
A spokesperson said: "Native peoples have long used the natural environments around them to meet their needs, and many of their innovations are part of daily life for millions of people around the world today."
