Irish transport, tourism and sport minister Leo Varadkar has announced EUR3.4m (£2.8m) of funding for a programme of "major" tourism events to be held throughout 2012.
The funding will be distributed through national tourism agency Fáilte Ireland and is aimed at a series of international sporting and tourism events, such as Tall Ships 2012.
Varadkar said: "The festivals and events held in 2010 attracted some 433,000 overseas visitors, generating EUR448m (£373m) in economic activity and supporting 9,000 jobs."
