Neath Port Talbot Council (NPTC) has announced the start of environmental works at Cefn Coed Museum near Crynant, South Wales.
The colliery attraction, which explores the history of coal mining in the Dulais Valley, boasts a working steam engine and a simulated mine to provide a realistic taste of mining life.
A Welsh Assembly Government grant worth £50,000 has been awarded to the Friends of Cefn Coed - backed by NPTC - to carry out enhancement work.
NPTC leader Ali Thomas said: "These works will improve visitor facilities and make a huge difference to the appearance of the museum."
