Cult 90s TV show The Crystal Maze set to become London attraction

... Shouts of “Get the Crystal!” might soon be ringing through the streets of London. Rumours are circulating that a 1990s game show – featuring a labyrinth, a huge dome, an eccentric bald host and his “mumsy” – is going to be brought back in the form of an immersive attraction experience.

British TV show The Crystal Maze, which ran from 1990 to 1995, developed a huge cult following thanks to its quirky concept and wide variety of gripping challenges.

The idea might have come off the back of an article in the Guardian in February . In a story about the TV show’s 25th anniversary, it called for a reboot of the concept as an immersive escape game, a “Crystal Maze 2.0”.

“Live-action ‘escape games’ where participants have to solve a series of cryptic clues to get out of a locked room … are currently all the rage in the UK and beyond,” it said. “It feels like there’s still a public appetite for this kind of immersive experience.”
