One in five inspired to do more sport post Olympics, according to poll

A new poll reveals that 18 per cent of British adults have been inspired to take part in more sport since last year's London Olympics and Paralympics.

The ComRes poll found 16 per cent of women and 10 per cent of those aged over 55 agreed they were more inspired to take up sport after the Games.

The Government promised cultivating the UK as a sporting-nation would be one of five legacies of London 2012.

The survey also revealed a third of people had noticed an increase in non-football sports coverage since the Games, however, 53 per cent of people disagreed that was the case.

More than half the British public felt there was too much coverage of football across TV, radio and newspapers at the expense of other sports.

ComRes interviewed 1,009 adults by phone between 4-6 January for the survey.

The results follow a United Learning Group survey of pupil's at the organisation's academies and independent schools, released this week, which found 69 per cent of children aged 11-18 wanted to try new sports following London 2012.
