Sky’s the limit for new Sydney attraction
POSTED 11 Oct 2005 . BY
The Centrepoint Tower in Sydney, Australia, is set to open it latest attraction next week, the AUS$6m (£2.6m, US$4.6m, 3.8m euro) Skywalk, which offers visitors a 360-degree view of the city from 268m (880ft) up.

Dressed in protective clothing and harnessed to safety rails, people will be able to take a 95-minute guided tour along two levels of circular steel pathways around the tower, before venturing out onto glass floor platforms suspended over the edge of the tower.

The viewing platforms are more than twice the height of Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Tickets for the Skywalk went on sale at the beginning of the month, with the first visitors set to ascend to the platforms on 18 October.

Prior to the opening, a ticket will be auctioned on ebay for the opportunity to be the first member of the public to experience the Skywalk. Proceeds from the sale will go to charity.

“As Sydney’s highest altitude tour, Skywalk is certain to become one of Australia’s most popular tourist drawcards,” said James Fulford, chief executive of Sydney Aquarium Group, which operates the tower’s attractions.

“We expect tens of thousands of people a year will seek the adrenaline rush Skywalk will offer.”

The 305m (1,000ft) Sydney Centrepoint Tower, which also boasts the OzTrek motion theatre, has welcomed more than 16 million visitors since opening in 1981. Details: www.skywalk.com.au
