Plans for the £39m redevelopment of Mumbles Pier in Swansea have been revealed.
The proposals include a 150-room hotel and spa, a conference and exhibition centre, restaurants, a family entertainment centre, a range of all-weather attractions and improved public spaces.
The scheme, which is the brainchild of the pier’s owners, Amusement Equipment Company (AMECO), has already received support from Chris Holley, leader of Swansea Council.
“I am absolutely delighted that AMECO has come forward with these proposals,” said Holley.
“Once the council has had the opportunity to evaluate the proposals, we will swiftly progress to development stage with AMECO.”
John Bollom, managing director of AMECO, added: “The pier has been in the stewardship of our family firm for the last 70 years. We believe that we can ensure its future and create a premier tourist destination that offers stunning panoramic views and do so at no cost to the public purse”.
The pier was first built in 1898, before it was reconstructed by AMECO in 1956.
