An 18-acre (7-hectare) waterpark development with unobstructed views of Lake Erie is nearing completion at Cedar Point theme park in Sandusky, Ohio.

Cedar Point Shores is a complete overhaul of the theme park’s old Soak City waterpark. The makeover includes Point Plummet aqua-drop – a free fall drop slide which is part of a six-storey structure forming the centrepiece of the waterpark.

The towering slide complex also boasts a range of tube slides for solo or duo riders, Portside Plunge and Starboard Surge. A new splashpad zone is also being installed.

Many of the Soak City attractions will be updated and modernised, such as the wave pool, lazy rivers, children’s play areas, changing facilities and cabanas.

Cedar Point reopens on 6 May, with the new waterpark opening three weeks later, on 27 May.

Additionally, Cedar Point is renovating its Breakers Express accommodation, renaming it Cedar Point Express Hotel and increasing its capacity with 69 new rooms. The onsite Hotel Breakers is also undergoing further expansion, adding 158 rooms by summer 2018.
