Watersports island proposed for Swan River in Perth

Australian property company Northstar Developments has unveiled plans to construct a floating island oasis in the shallows of the Swan River in Perth.

Designed to be a watersports and general leisure destination, the Swan River Deck–if approved–would be a jellyfish and algae-free zone, comprising multiple naturally heated pools, an outdoor cinema, a sand-bar for sunbathing, a top platform for dining and lounging, and a green-roofed conference hall with rooms inside for events and exhibitions.

The organisational team, which is mainly collaborating with ARM Architecture, has also sought advice from the designers behind Plus Pool, a similar project currently being developed for the Hudson River.

In a statement, the River Deck team explained that the venue would offer a new way to "interact with the river and a new destination".

"This destination will enrich Perth’s developing foreshore and add to its burgeoning nightlife," said the group. "This is not just a place for swimming, it's a place to learn, meet friends, gather for events and enjoy performances."

Although no date has been set for the project’s start or completion date, Northstar has issued a survey to gauge public interest.
