VR company Jaunt debuts six-part McCartney documentary
POSTED 26 May 2016 . BY Tom Anstey

VR startup Jaunt, which last year secured US$65m (€58m, £42m) from a number of global companies to develop its immersive technology, has produced a six-part virtual reality series about Paul McCartney.

Partnered with VisitBritain and the GREAT Britain campaign, Pure McCartney VR was filmed in McCartney’s private home studio, as fans take a personal journey with him as he recounts memories and anecdotes related to various tracks from his upcoming album Pure McCartney.

Disney, Sky, German media conglomerates Axel Springer and ProSiebenSat.1 Media are among the companies investing in Jaunt, which has total capital of around US$100m (€89.3m, £64.6m).

Jaunt offers a different kind of virtual reality to other companies, creating and distributing live-action VR content, differing from the computer-generated content filling the market right now. Using a spherical 24-lens camera, Jaunt takes footage shot from each lens and puts it all together into one single image creating a high-definition representation of the real world. The technology offers the potential to completely immerse users into movies or even put them into a live sporting event using a VR headset.

The first two episodes of Pure McCartney VR were released via the Jaunt VR App on 24 May, with further releases coming on 31 May, 7 June, 10 June and 14 June.
