Highly-anticipated virtual reality experience The Void is teaming up with Sony Pictures and Madame Tussauds New York to create a Ghostbusters experience in the heart of Times Square.
The first public display of The Void’s VR capabilities, ‘Ghostbusters: Dimension’ will create a first-of-its kind experience, with a multisensory, all-immersive VR environment based on the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot.
Scheduled to open on 1 July, the tie-up will be part of Madame Tussauds New York’s Ghostbusters Experience and is sure to prove popular with a rebooted cast of female Ghostbusters debuting in cinemas in the US on 15 July.
Using authentic props, costumes, a vehicle, gadgets, real-time effects and the state-of-the-art VR technology produced by The Void in collaboration with Sony, visitors will be able to explore the Ghostbusters Headquarters while on a hunt for a paranormal villain.
“We all had the same goal – to create the most authentic Ghostbusters experience possible,” said Curtis Hickman, president of VOID Studios. “We’re using the same sounds, 3D models, and textures from the film to recreate a world where you’ll struggle to capture ghosts and cause an unbelievable amount of damage.”
"Ghostbusters has an incredible, passionate fan following, and now VR technology allows the fans to become a Ghostbuster themselves within Madame Tussauds New York,” said Ivan Reitman, director of the original Ghostbusters film.
“The technology is breathtaking, the experience is thrilling, and what better way is there to use VR, than to let audiences inhabit the stories they love."
