The historical seat of the Dalai Lama, the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, has suffered structural damage after Chinese attempts to encourage more tourism in the ancient city.

The 1,300 year-old palace, which is part of a Unesco World Heritage site, is believed to have been badly repaired as Beijing attempts to remarket Tibet as a tourist attraction despite the city's unsuitability for large numbers.
