The National Coal Mining Museum in Overton, Wakefield, opened its latest development on 17 May.
Called Hope Pit, the site is a colliery complex housing historically significant restored buildings which date back as far as the 19th century.
Developed with funding of almost £1m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and EU Life, Hope Pit will be used as a schools’ centre for projects on the coal mining industry with an emphasis on subjects such as science, geography and design and technology.
