Theatrical Sherlock Holmes experience debuts at Tussauds
POSTED 13 Jul 2016 . BY Helen Patenall
Visitors will embark on a journey full of illusions and sound effects featuring actors and theatrical stages
An innovative live walk-through adventure called Sherlock Holmes: The  Experience is debuting on 15 July at Madame Tussauds London, just a stone's throw from the Baker Street home of the famous fictional detective.

Visitors to the permanent interactive experience will enter the mysterious world of Sherlock Holmes, theatrically staged in the basement of the Marylebone-based attraction.

Embarking on a journey full of illusions and sound effects featuring actors and multi-textured theatrical sets, visitors will be immersed in the most famous places featured in the popular detective stories, such as the drawing room, lamp lit Victorian streets and dark moors – all magically recreated.

Madame Tussauds global brand director, Jules Heaton, explains: “The creation of immersive theatrical experiences – which are not wax figure based – is a very exciting development for Madame Tussauds and a model which we intend to roll out to our attractions worldwide.”

An evening show-cum-investigative challenge dubbed The Game's Afoot will also run for a time-limited season from 18 July to 30 September. In this free roaming adventure located in the same staged basement, visitors aged 16+ can create their own unique experience based on deductions made from written clues hidden in objects or played out by actors.

There are three different ‘cases’ to be solved, with one case being featured each night on rotation, so the one-hour experience can be repeated.

Sherlock Holmes: The Experience is pitched at families and the cost is included in the standard Madame Tussauds London entrance price, whereas the temporary Game's Afoot evening show is a separate ticketed event.

Both experiences have been created in partnership with Olivier-nominated theatre company Les Enfants Terribles and live entertainment company Emma Brünjes Production (ebp).

Emma Brünjes, ebp director, says: “The opportunity to explore the extraordinary storytelling world of Sherlock Holmes is hugely exciting and a perfect platform for the original and innovative spirit of Les Enfants Terribles.

We hope to delight audiences young and old, from the UK and all over the world, with our reimagining of the enigmatic detective’s universe – and are delighted to have the opportunity to give Holmes a stage so near his fictional roots in Baker Street.”
