Back Row Events and the South Bank Centre have announced that Lambeth Council has approved a planning re-application for 2006 which would see the use of part of Queen’s Walk in London as a beach and outdoor cinema next summer.
Similar in concept to the Paris Plage, Backrow Productions will build the beach along Queens Walk, in the shadow of the London Eye. Other attractions on site will include arts and sports activity zones, nightly outdoor cinema shows on a 7m-high screen with seating for 1,000 people, a beach cafe, market stalls and mobile barbeques.
The visitor and lifestyle attraction was originally planned for summer 2005, but a delayed council approval forced deferral of the event to 2006.
Chief executive of the South Bank Centre, Michael Lynch, said: “London’s new beach and outdoor cinema will be a great addition to the South Bank.” Details: www.backrow.co.uk
