Castlecomer Discovery Park Visitor Centre in Co Kilkenny, Ireland, is set to open its new Footprints in Coal exhibition.
The interactive exhibit will showcase the history of Castlecomer’s rich coal mining heritage, from the formation of the coal in swamp forests more than 300 million years ago to its more recent 300-year-old coal mining history.
The multi-media showcase will also tell the story of the daily social and working lives of the miners, as well as their relationship with the area’s land owners and unions.
The visitor centre will house the new Jarrow Café and a gift shop.
The European Regional Development Fund, Kilkenny County Council, BNS Rural Development and Pobal funded the project.
