Europe's longest zip line is set to open in Gwynedd, Wales

A zip line in Bethesda, Gwynedd, North Wales, which will see visitors travel through the sky at speeds of up to 75mph, is set to launch on 16 March 2013.

Located in Penrhyn Quarry, which was once the largest quarry in the world, the attraction will be one mile long and 700ft (213m) above a lake.

Developer Zip World Ltd is expecting the £500,000 project to attract around 30,000 people to the area annually.

A smaller zip line will be also feature 1,650ft (500m) long with speeds of up to 35mph.

The journey starts at ground level with visitors collected in ex-military vehicles and taken up into the Welsh mountains on a three hour guided tour of the area.
Sean Taylor, director of Zip World, said: “Zip World is going to be a great experience for people of all ages to enjoy. Guests will be able to fly through the air like superman in pairs and reach speeds of up to 75mph.

"It will really position the area as the Heart of Adventure and showcase a great region of North Wales and what it has to offer people holidaying in the area.”
