Downtown Disney officially renamed Disney Springs as redevelopment continues
POSTED 28 Sep 2015 . BY Tom Anstey
Once complete, the redeveloped Disney Springs will double the number of restaurants, shops and venues available to 150
Downtown Disney will officially be renamed Disney Springs this week as the property in Orlando, Florida, continues its ongoing multi-million dollar redevelopment.

A ceremony will take place on Tuesday (22 September) to mark the renaming before the opening of the entertainment complex’s Morimoto Asia restaurant, the latest addition to Disney Springs.

Currently featuring restaurants, a variety of entertainment options and a range of Disney and other-branded shops on the theme park’s waterfront, the Downtown Disney entertainment complex originally opened in 1975.

Once complete, the redeveloped Disney Springs will double the number of restaurants, shops and venues available to 150.

Since the announcement in March 2013, Disney has debuted the Marketplace Boat Dock and Saratoga Bridge, a pedestrian-friendly connection between Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Disney Springs, as well as The Landing, a central area replacing a number of night clubs. Several new stores, bars and restaurants have also opened for business across the site.

Future plans to be complete by mid-2016 include the closure of DisneyQuest to make room for the NBA Experience and the opening of the town centre following a complete redevelopment to fall in line with the new theming. Furthermore, "High Line-style" structures will be built to provide both theme and shade.
