€22m augmented reality FEC files for bankruptcy four months after opening
POSTED 28 Jul 2015 . BY Tom Anstey
The concept uses an interactive décor to offer an ever-changing landscape
Yumble – the brand-new €22m (US$24.1m, £15.6m) indoor FEC concept in the Netherlands – has filed for bankruptcy just four months after opening its doors.

Touting itself as a “next-generation entertainment park”, Yumble opened its doors in the city of Roermond’s McArthur Glen Designer Outlet in April. The FEC’s main attractions are based on motion technology, 3D projection and interactive elements, creating an augmented and virtual reality experience for guests.

The concept uses an interactive décor to offer an ever-changing landscape, implementing a fully-immersive experience at the attraction. Vekoma delivered rides for Yumble, which included the V-Ride Adventure simulator and the D-Ride interactive 4D dark ride.

Upon opening, Yumble predicted between 300,000 to 350,000 visitors in its first year. The company failed to reach these targets however, which coupled with a party deciding to withdraw funding at the last moment, forced Yumble to close its doors.

Yumble’s operators are currently in consultation with the bankruptcy curator and are looking for a way to reopen the attraction, blaming disappointing visitor numbers on the overdue expansion of the Roermond designer outlet, which has been delayed for two years and left Yumble sitting in-and-around a building site.

“In the past months, we have learned a lot about your first experiences at Yumble,” said a statement from the FEC’s website. “We are a brand new concept and we would like to take these experiences with us to make Yumble even more fun and exciting. Over the coming period we will work hard to establish this and for that reason we will close our doors for a few weeks.”
