The Field Museum in Chicago, US, has partnered with Emmy and BAFTA award-winning media production company, Atlantic Productions, to develop a new digital exhibit.
The new exhibit will be centred around Sue, the museum’s 40.5ft (12.3m) T-Rex fossil, and is expected to open in Spring 2019, to celebrate the museum’s 125th anniversary.
Atlantic Productions, which has previously worked on David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive and Flying Monsters, will create a scientifically accurate dioramic display of the late Cretaceous period, Sue’s natural habitat, using dynamic visual effects designed to bring the exhibit to life.
Sue was discovered by, and named for, paleontologist Susan Hendrickson, in 1990. It is the most complete T-Rex fossil, and second oldest T-Rex specimen, ever discovered, and has been on display at The Field Museum since 2000.
Emily Smith, director of Marketing and Business Development at Atlantic Productions, says: “We are proud to have been selected for this prestigious contract. It builds on Atlantic Production’s award-winning CGI capabilities and the creation of scientifically accurate environments including those seen in our work with David Attenborough. We are excited to work with The Field who have such a tremendously creative vision for the new gallery.”
Taylor Peterson, digital project manager at The Field Museum, says: “The Field Museum is thrilled to partner with Atlantic Productions to design Sue’s environment. Their trusted expertise and aesthetic in CGI animation will make for a spectacular experience worthy of our most famous fossil.”
