| Holovis creates new attraction at Fantasy Island |

| The Mythical Mountain was brought to life through projection mapping |
|
Fantasy Island theme park in Lincolnshire, UK has enlisted the help of experience design experts Holovis to create a multi-media show to keep guests engaged and staying in the park longer.
Holovis produced the entire experience, including concept, character and story development.
The company utilised existing theming and projection mapping to create the show, including the central character of the Mythical Mountain.
Projection mapping proved to be trickier than expected due to the uneven surface, designed to replicate a mountainous terrain. In order to overcome this issue Holovis carried out a lidar scan to create a 3D model so they could accurately map the projection effects across the surface.
Holovis engineers also selected and installed three Barco F90 laser based projectors and the Green Hippo Hippotizer to bring the show to life.
Peter Cliff, creative director at Holovis, says: “Due to the uneven finish of the theming the mountain was not an easy surface to projection map onto. We first captured a lidar scan of the desired area then worked from the point source data obtained.”
Cliff adds: “The result is a multipurpose canvas that Fantasy Island can easily update with new seasonal shows throughout the year to keep audiences engaged. The main show takes place in the evening so guests are staying later into the day, increasing the spend per head and resulting in a tangible ROI benefit for the park owners and operators.”
Edward Mellors, director Fantasy Island operators the Mellors Group, says: “We wanted a new feature that would vastly augment the expected visitor experience and have certainly found it within the projection mapped show. This dynamic visualisation is something that many of our guests have never seen in person before so they plan their day around attending the evening show. It’s great to have a non-weather dependent feature that can be so easily updated with new content.”
