Wildfires close California attractions
POSTED 07 Nov 2003 . BY
Several San Diego attractions were affected by the recent wildfires that devastated parts of California and claimed the lives of 22 people.

The smoke and the difficulty of getting around the city during the crisis forced the closing of attractions including the SeaWorld Adventure Park and San Diego Wild Animal Park.

The SeaWorld park halted its operations for four days, from 26 to 29 October.

San Diego Wild Animal Park closed only briefly on 27 October when one of the fires came close to local roads, but re-opened the following day. Its sister facility, the famous San Diego Zoo made it through without closing.

Caroline Beteta, executive director of the California Travel and Tourism Commission, has confirmed that all the attractions and tourist destinations in the areas of San Diego and Los Angeles – as well as those in the rest of the state that were unaffected by the fires – are open for business. She is leading a drive to encourage tourists to support the region. Details: www.gocalif.ca.gov
