Therme Group will now operate the entire collection of Josef Wund spas
Therme Group now operates five locations, including Therme Bucharest in Romania
The entire collection will welcome 5.3 million guests annually

Therme Group has acquired three renowned German thermal spas in Euskirchen, Sinsheim and Titisee-Neustadt from the Josef Wund Foundation.

The transaction, which is still subject to approval by the German Federal Cartel, brings the total number of sites in the Therme Group portfolio originally built by Josef Wund to four - Wund’s entire spa portfolio. Therme Erding, which is also in Germany, was acquired by Therme Group in 2024.

The deal is being carried out via the holding company Therme Horizon, which is a strategic joint venture between Therme Group and private equity firm CVC Capital Partners. Therme Horizon was set up to buy and develop wellness destinations and expand the Therme Group concept.

The deal is the result of a long-standing partnership with the late Josef Wund, his family and the foundation. Following Wund's death, the foundation became the sole heir and owner of the Josef Wund Thermal Spa Group, also known as Thermengruppe Josef Wund.

Dr Robert Hanea, founder and CEO, Therme Group, said: “This moment has profound personal significance for me. My friendship, collaboration, and long-standing partnership with Josef Wund and his family spans more than two decades, and I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me.

“Therme Group is leading these destinations into the next phase of development,” added Hanea. “With all four locations now under our responsibility, we will further develop their experiences in a way that honours their origins while also attracting new visitor groups. Our goal remains to create places that bring joy, connection and transformative wellbeing infrastructure to the communities they serve – and to the many more who will now discover these remarkable German destinations.”

Therme Group now operates five locations (including Therme Bucharest, Romania) and welcomes 5.3 million guests annually.

Before the addition of the three new German sites, Therme Bucharest and Therme Erding welcomed 3.5 million visitors annually.

At the recent Global Wellness Summit in Dubai, UAE, Robert Hanea described Therme Group’s desire to democratise wellness by restoring lost infrastructure (such as Roman baths that catered to whole cities). He shared his ambition to welcome 100-120 million guests globally to Therme Group locations in the next 15 years. Read more here.

Expansion of the Therme Group concept

Earlier this year, the company broke ground on its sixth location, in Manchester, UK.

Therme Group says its bolstered portfolio will create new opportunities for innovation in sustainable engineering, water technology, experiential wellness, nature-based design and cultural programming.

Other new projects are underway in Bad Vilbel, Germany; Toronto, Canada; Dubai, UAE; plus US locations Dallas and Washington.

Plans have also been announced for sites in Singapore and South Korea.
