Enormous Hard Rock resort expansion to feature 450ft tall 'Guitar Tower,' 41,000sq ft spa

The flagship property in hospitality giant Hard Rock’s international empire will be expanded at a cost of US$1.5bn (€1.3bn, £1.1bn), with the addition of a 450ft (137m) high tower shaped like back-to-back guitars.

The giant structure will be the centrepiece of the enlarged Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, US.

Hard Rock International CEO James F. Allen has assembled a large design team – including Klai Juba Wald Architects, Rockwell Group, EDSA, Wilson Associates, Wimberly Interiors, Cleo Design and Laurence Lee Associates – to work on different elements of the project, described as “one of the world’s most elaborate casino complexes.”

The site’s hotel will be expanded to include 806 additional guestrooms and suites, with 638 in the guitar tower, bringing the total number to 1,300.

At the base of the new tower will be an elaborate 10-acre pool complex, with private villas surrounded entirely by water and waterfalls.

Other additions to the resort include around 60,000sq ft 5,574sq m) of new retail and restaurant space, a new business centre and a 41,000sq ft (3,809sq m) spa. The existing casino will also be doubled in size and the Hard Rock Live theatre and television studio will be redesigned and rebuilt at a cost of US$100m (€86m, £76m) by Montreal-based Sceno Plus, enhancing its capacity to 7,000.

The entirety of the work is expected to be completed by mid-2019, in advance of Super Bowl LIV at nearby Hard Rock Stadium in February 2020.

“Our ancestors and elders welcomed curious tourists to our Florida reservations, and today’s members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida will soon welcome visitors from all over the world to what will become a landmark destination,” said Seminole Tribe chair Marcellus Osceola Jr. “Our guitar tower will attract global attention.”
