The largest indoor waterpark in the UK has put its lifeguard team through its paces, holding an incident training session to better prepare the team as part of an ongoing programme to help ensure guest safety.
Sandcastle Waterpark’s IQL Approved Training Centre is one of the leading courses in its field. The training session was put together with the help of team members and volunteers from the nearby Fleetwood & Garstang YMCA Rookie Life Saving Club.
The session at the park in Blackpool was overseen by Waterpark manager Richard Halstead and was designed to ensure the lifeguards understand how to react if an incident should occur. Staff were tested on multiple scenarios, in and out of water, including aquatic rescues, spinal injuries, heart attack, seizures, neck injuries, and many more types of serious injury that would require immediate action from a trained professional.
“Putting our staff under pressure and acting out real life scenarios is key to training,” said Sandcastle MD John Child.
“We develop our staff through continual training programs in all areas and water safety is one of those areas; we respond to current demands and safety is paramount for everyone.”
