Edinburgh Zoo, currently celebrating its centenary year, has reopened its penguins' enclosure following a £750,000 revamp and featuring new viewing platforms, an enhanced habitat and a new water filtration system.
Called Penguin Rock, the attraction includes a 1.2m litre pool with a stone waterfall feature, a water shoot and a diving board made out of carved wood.
Mock sandy beaches and rocky areas add visually to the enclosure but also provide birds with different textures to feel under their feet.
Fletcher Joseph Architects were behind the enclosure design, with
Turner & Townsend managing the project.
