Wyre Borough Council (WBC) has announced that construction work is to begin on a new observation tower at Rossall Point after a contractor was appointed to deliver the scheme.
Parkinson Building Contractors has been chosen by the council to build the new 14m (46ft) attraction, which forms part of wider efforts to rejuvenate the Wyre coastline.
The tower will include several viewing platforms open to the public, as well as an education centre on the ground floor and a new home for National Coast Watch Initiative volunteers.
Funded through the now-defunct government Sea Change programme, the tower is due to open in spring 2012.
