A new collaboration betwen the national government agencies responsible for sport, arts, heritage, the built environment and museums and libraries in the UK has been launched to deliver creative, cultural and sporting opportunities.
Where we live! builds on the success of a joint document produced two years ago – Bringing Communities Together Through Culture and Sport.
Various agencies, including the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Sport England, English Heritage and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) are dedicating the partnership to helping local authorities and planners to use culture and sport to build sustainable communities.
The partnership was launched at the Local Government Association Delivering Sustainable Communities conference.
Over the next year it will be working with key government bodies, such as the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, as well as local authorities, to emphasise the value of culture and sport in building balanced, sustainable communities across the country.
Particular priority will be given to designated Growth Areas, such as the Thames Gateway, and Housing Market Renewal Areas, including Birmingham, Manchester, Merseyside and Newcastle.
