The largest maize maze in the world has opened in Yorkshire, UK, near the Grimston Bar Park & Ride site on the A1079.
Covering an area of more than 24 acres and shaped to resemble Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, it took 1.5 million plants to create the maze, which is seven acres larger than the current Guinness world record holder.
Creator of the maze, farmer Tom Pearcy, said: “I chose the design to mark the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot and the connection with Guy Fawkes, who came from York.”
The maize site – which launched on 16 July – also includes a nine-hole ‘crazy-mazy’ golf course. It will remain open for eight weeks before the maize is harvested. Details: www.yorkmaze.co.uk
