After reopening a number of indoor attractions in Shanghai, China, after new coronavirus cases in the city dropped to zero, officials have ordered those attractions to close again, following a surge of new cases coming from overseas.

Shanghai, China's largest city, had been gradually reopening attractions through March, but a spate of imported COVID-19 cases – now at more than 160 – has seen officials make a u-turn.

More than 25 indoor attractions, including the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Madame Tussauds, the Shanghai Tower and the Jin Mao Tower have been completely closed. A further 37 outdoor attractions, including the Shanghai Wild Animal Park, City Beach, and Chenshan Botanical Garden have had their indoor areas shut down.

China has now banned foreigners, including those with residence visas, from entering the country in an attempt to reduce the number of imported cases of coronavirus. Its government has also severly cut down on the number of international flights available.
