Alpamare sets opening date for first UK waterpark
POSTED 11 Jul 2016 . BY Tom Anstey
Swiss-based Alpamare expects to attract up to half-a-million visitors annually to the new waterpark
Alpamare has announced the opening date of its first ever waterpark in the UK, with the £14m (US$18.2m, €16.4m) alpine-themed attraction in Scarborough launching on 28 July.

Swiss-based Alpamare expects to attract up to half-a-million visitors annually to the new waterpark, which will feature four rides, with its lazy river, two-person tubes, racing mats and body slide.

Additionally the attraction will offer an outdoor garden pool and an infinity pool with massage jets, whirlpools and bubble benches. A terrace will overlook the Scarborough coastline, complete with sunbeds, a pool bar and a restaurant, while a luxury European thermal spa will open later in early 2017, featuring steambaths, a sauna and treatment facilities.

Located in Scarborough’s North Bay, known as The Sands, the park forms part of a wider redevelopment of the area being undertaken by developer Benchmark Properties. The council has provided a loan facility worth £9m (US$15.3m, €11m) to fund the development.

“Yorkshire is a truly amazing county and we’re confident that we are delivering a truly amazing, all year round attraction for the county and the UK to be proud of,” said Alpamare CEO, Dr Anton Hoefter.

“We’re now on countdown to 28 July and we really can’t wait to welcome our first visitors through the doors.”
