Blackpool Zoo is set to open a new £2m Dinosaur Safari – the largest new attraction to open at the venue since Gorilla Island in 2000.
The 1,000sq m (10,750sq ft) safari features 32 different model dinosaurs, which range in size from 0.5m to 10m; an erupting volcano; springs which shoot water 6m into the air; a lake; a waterfall curtain and a smouldering meteorite.
The attraction also includes a new enclosure for the zoo’s giant tortoises and is surrounded by 13,000 new trees, shrubs and plants – including many which have remained virtually unchanged since prehistoric times.
In addition to the Dinosaur Safari, Blackpool Zoo – which is owned and operated by Grant Leisure – has also recently created a new visitor reception area, including a conference facility, exhibition space, a children’s play area, a Costa Coffee House and two gift shops, one of which will be a fair trade outlet.
