Three members of staff from Sierra Leone's newly-opened National Railway Collection in Freetown visited the UK in June for four weeks to find out more about collection maintenance, visitor services and care as part of a new, UK government-funded Africa Initiative.
Sierra Leone’s President Ahmed Tejan Kabbak opened his country’s new Railway Collection in March.
Head of the National Railway Museum in York, UK, Andrew Scott, said: “It's difficult for us to imagine the impact of this new initiative in a country which is emerging from a long period of unrest and which has no railway system and few public museums. We hope that the programme can help the team sustain the museum development for Sierra Leone's future." Details: www.nmsi.ac.uk
