Mack Rides to make UK's first double launch coaster for Blackpool

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has unveiled plans for a new multi-million pound rollercoaster, a £16.25m (US$20.9m, €18.6m) venture that will feature Britain’s first use of the double-launch on a single coaster.

Currently going under the name of “Construction 2018,” the new coaster by Mack Rides will reach heights of 88.5ft (27m), with riders being propelled forward twice during the 150-second experience, reaching speeds of up to 80kmph (50mph). The ride will pass through five of the site’s existing rides, which will create a “unique experience,” according to the attraction.

"Construction 2018 will be fast, adrenaline-fuelled and exhilarating, but also smooth and comfortable – an entirely new ride experience," said Nick Thompson, managing director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. "It sees a significant investment in our attraction. We expect to see thrill seekers flock to the park to experience this UK ride first."

Construction 2018 has been pencilled in to open for Q1 2018, with the official name of the new coaster to be revealed later this year.

"Blackpool Pleasure Beach, the world's most ride-intensive amusement park, is home to the UK's first looping coaster, Revolution, and, at the time it was built, the world's tallest and fastest rollercoaster, The Big One," said the park’s managing director, Amanda Thompson. "I'm delighted to be able to continue this tradition and bring such a thrilling ride to the UK."
