People could be shifting their Christmas-list focus towards the wearable technology market this year, as consumer interest continues to grow in the booming fitness monitoring sector.

With increasing numbers of health enthusiasts deciding to dip into the market, three fitness-monitoring devices have claimed the top spots on Currys & PC World’s 'Top Ten Christmas 2014 Tech Gifts' list.

The three devices come in the form of Samsung's Gear Fit, Fitbit's Force and Garmin's Forerunner 15.

According to Deloitte, it is predicted that 10 million wearable devices will ship globally this year, while sports and technology leaders including Nike, Adidas, Apple and Google have all sought to invest heavily in order to gain a foothold in the sector.

“Customers are focusing on their health and fitness more than ever before and portable technology is very much the future as busy customers want to be able to do more things remotely and conveniently," said Rupert Nichols, head of mobile computing and connectivity at Currys & PC World.

"We have seen a steady rise in sales of wearable technology but we expect to sell a lot more units this Christmas as everyone will want to trim up in the New Year."

In conjunction with growing fitness band and watch uses, there has also been a rise in the number of people using health and fitness associated apps.

Recent research from Flurry has found that daily usage of health and fitness apps has grown by 62 per cent over the last six months.

The increase represents a growth rate that is 87 per cent faster than the mobile apps industry as a whole.
