Evacuation chair manufacturer Evac+Chair International has provided Alton Towers with a number of its chairs for some of the park’s top attractions.
Alton Towers aims to provide comprehensive disabled access its park and has now seen the installation of Evac+Chairs on the Spinball Whizzer, Oblivion, Corkscrew and Air rides in a move designed to permit the safe evacuation of mobility-impaired visitors in the event of an emergency.
The chair enables a single user to evacuate a person of up to 150kg quickly and easily down a flight of stairs.
This is achieved by a design involving continuous belts which provide controlled descent over stair nosings in proportion to passenger weight.
The chairs can be used on even steep stairways, with an angle of descent of up to 40˚. A slimline model is also available for use on narrow stairs.
