The shortlisted design concepts for the new Museum of London are to star in an upcoming exhibition. Six architectural teams were shortlisted for their designs for the new home museum in a Victorian market hall in West Smithfield.

The concepts are to go on display in a public exhibition at the current Museum of London from 10 June to 5 August, with the final winner announced shortly after. The mini-exhibit will give people a chance to study the designs and learn about the £150m (US$214, €188m) move.

“Every time I visit Smithfield I come away buzzing with ideas and the energy of the place. It is clear from their concepts for a new museum that the architectural teams have been equally captivated by Smithfield’s vivid history and vibrant character,” said Sharon Ament, director of the Museum of London.

“These six concepts which suggest a fascinating range of options will give the jury plenty to consider when deciding upon an architect to work with us to design the new museum.”

The following six teams were shortlisted:

- BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group (DK) with HawkinsBrown (UK)

- Caruso St John Architects (UK)

- Diener & Diener Architekten (CH) with Sergison Bates Architects (UK)

- Lacaton & Vassal Architectes (FR) with Pernilla Ohrstedt Studio (UK)

- Stanton Williams (UK) with Asif Khan (UK)

- Studio Milou architecture (FR) with RL&Associés (FR) and Axis Architects (UK)

An international design competition has been organised by Malcolm Reading Consultants, with 80 teams and 140 practices entering the first stage.
